Due to concerns about the Omicron variant of Covid, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone our Win on Waste sessions in January 2022.
With the NHS working hard to look after us, we have no wish to add to their workload by encouraging people to gather at our sessions, so we will pause in January with the aim of sessions returning in February when the picture is clearer.
Our sessions in Kinson and Wimborne have now finished for 2021, but will return in January 2022. Keep an eye out for the posters for these sessions, and don’t forget to save your cracker toys and Ferrero Rocher packaging for our January sessions!
Alongside funding news and achievements for the year the report also confirms that Ideas2Action co-founder, Monique Munroe, has accepted the position of Chair of Trustees after a unanimous vote.
The post of Acting-Chair had been held by Cariad Medway-Smith, who recently stepped down from the role at the end of her full term as Trustee.
All of the Trustees would like to thank Cariad for her expertise and passion for Win on Waste’s work and wish her the very best for her future endeavours.
Win on Waste was delighted to be awarded £475 by the 2021 Hall & Woodhouse Community Chest at a presentation evening on Friday 1st October.
The funding will be use to update the IT equipment used by the charity, and allow them to provide a laptop to one of their volunteers.
Business Manager, Stacey Woods, accepts the award at The Brewery Tap, Blandford.
Speaking after the event Win on Waste Business Manager, Stacey Woods, said ‘As an environmental charity, we bring recycling into all aspects of running our activities, including our office equipment, which was kindly donated by one of our supporters. This is really beginning to show its age now, so we’re thrilled to be awarded this money by Hall & Woodhouse Community Chest to keep us up-to-date.’
She continued ‘Many of our supporters now find us through our website and social media so it’s really important that we have the tools to keep our information accurate and up-to-date’.
Win on Waste has been empowering local people in the BCP and Dorset Council areas to responsibly recycle their household waste since 2013. Despite being hit hard by Covid-19 and the closure of all 17 monthly waste collection sessions, they have been able to restart seven sessions since June 2021. Common household waste items, such as crisp packets, ink cartridges and used stamps are collected and diverted from landfill towards charities that can use them for their fundraising. Since June 2021 Win on Waste has been able to divert over 200kg of this waste towards local and national good causes.
The Hall & Woodhouse Community Chest includes an annual pool of funds totalling £50,000 pledged by Hall and Woodhouse, and also receives invaluable support, advice and local knowledge from the Dorset & Sussex Community Foundations.
Applications for the 2022 funding round will open in February 2022.
As part of the awards evening, each organisation was given the chance to submit a short video about their work – ours is below:
